OpenCut
An open-source video editor aiming to be a privacy-first CapCut alternative.

Best for
Creators who want quick browser-based editing without uploading footage to a proprietary cloud.
Why it deserves attention
OpenCut offers a timeline editor, trimming, transitions, text, and export in the browser, with a simple interface that favors short-form video. It is MIT-licensed and free, and the project is rewriting its core around a Rust engine for desktop, mobile, and browser builds, plus an editor API, plugins, MCP server, and headless rendering. Today's public version is the classic web editor and is still labeled early beta. The trade-off is maturity: the rewrite is not finished, advanced color and audio tools are limited, and very large projects may not suit a browser editor.
