Modal
Serverless containers and GPUs that scale to zero, with sandboxes built for coding agents and untrusted code.

Best for
Python teams that need bursty GPU inference, batch jobs or agent sandboxes without managing Kubernetes.
Why it deserves attention
Modal turns a Python function into a deployable container: decorate it, describe its image and GPU, and it runs on Modal's multi-cloud capacity pool, scaling to zero when idle and billed per second. Web endpoints, scheduled jobs, queues and volumes come from the same SDK, and the newer Sandboxes product gives coding agents and RL rollouts isolated environments for untrusted code. The Starter plan is $0 plus compute with $30/month of free credits, and Team adds larger concurrency and $100/month in credits. Cold starts are fast because images are cached and built incrementally. The caveats: it is Python-centric, so non-Python services fit awkwardly; per-second GPU pricing is fair but adds up for always-on workloads; and the abstraction hides infrastructure in ways that make deep debugging harder.
