Datadog
One observability platform for metrics, logs, traces and security, with dashboards that stay in sync with deploys.

Best for
Teams running distributed systems who need infrastructure, APM and logs correlated in one place across many services.
Why it deserves attention
Datadog treats observability as one product line rather than four tools: infrastructure metrics, APM traces, log management, real user monitoring, synthetic checks, database and network monitoring, CI visibility and cloud security all share the same tags and dashboards, so a spike on a dashboard links straight to the trace that caused it. It auto-instruments most frameworks, ships hundreds of integrations, supports OpenTelemetry ingestion and deploys as SaaS with agents plus a CLI and API. Feature flags, incident response and error tracking round out the software delivery loop, and a free plan covers up to five hosts. The caveats: pricing is per host, per custom metric and per log volume, and bills grow quickly — teams routinely call it the most expensive tool in their stack — and the breadth of settings rewards dedicated ownership.
