Bun
A JavaScript runtime, package manager, bundler and test runner in one very fast binary.

Best for
JavaScript and TypeScript teams who want shorter installs and startup times without rewriting their stack.
Why it deserves attention
Bun is a drop-in JavaScript runtime built on JavaScriptCore: it executes TypeScript directly, ships its own package manager that installs node_modules far faster than npm, includes a bundler and a Jest-compatible test runner, and speaks most of Node's standard library and npm ecosystem. Recent releases have focused on Node compatibility, so real services can move over; Trigger.dev reported 41% lower memory per container and 18% faster cold starts after switching. It is MIT-licensed, still shipping frequent releases (v1.4 at the time of writing) after its team joined Anthropic, and installs as a single binary via brew, curl or npm. Caveats: a few Node APIs and native modules still behave differently, and production teams should test their specific dependencies before switching.
