Syncthing
Continuous peer-to-peer file sync between your own devices, with no cloud in the middle.

Best for
People who want their files on every machine without paying for or trusting a cloud drive.
Why it deserves attention
Syncthing pairs devices with their own IDs and syncs folders directly over TLS, so data never lands on a third-party server. It supports versioning, ignore patterns, bandwidth limits, device and folder sharing, a local web UI, and runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, and Android, including NAS and Docker setups. It is MPL-2.0 with about 90,000 GitHub stars and free with no storage limits. Both sides must be online to sync, edited files can leave conflict copies, large folders use noticeable disk and CPU, and there is no official iOS build.
