Best for

People moving files between Mac, Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS devices without AirDrop or a cloud drive.

Why it deserves attention

LocalSend runs a small HTTPS server on each device and discovers peers over the local network, so a phone can send a folder to a laptop across platforms without an account or an upload to someone else's server. Transfers use encryption with self-signed certificates, device approval is explicit, and the app works fully offline with no ads or trackers. It is Apache-2.0 with about 97,000 GitHub stars, 35 million downloads, and builds for macOS, Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS. Both devices must be on the same network, there is no relay for remote transfers, and large batches are limited by Wi-Fi speed rather than the app.
