SoftBestsStandard NotesUnderrated
End-to-end encrypted notes that stay readable decades from now, on every platform you own.
Best for
People who want long-lived private notes without trusting a single vendor's sync format.
Why it deserves attention
Standard Notes encrypts everything on the client with end-to-end encryption, so the server only ever sees ciphertext, and it keeps its file format open and well documented — the stated goal is that your notes remain readable in the distant future. Apps exist for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android and the web, with Markdown and rich-text editors, tags, search, version history on paid plans and extensions for spreadsheets, code and tasks. A free tier covers plain notes, and paid plans add versioning, extensions and larger uploads. The trade-off: setup is more sober than Notion-style tools, collaboration is limited, and the strongest features sit behind a subscription.
