Best for

Mac users who want CleanShot X features without a subscription or an Electron app.

Why it deserves attention

MacShot is built with Swift and AppKit and lives in the menu bar. It covers region and window capture, 19+ annotation tools, scrolling capture, MP4/GIF recording with a built-in timeline editor, OCR plus translation, automatic PII redaction, beautified backgrounds, and one-click upload to Google Drive, imgbb, or any S3-compatible bucket. It is GPLv3, free, localized into 40 languages, and has about 4,000 GitHub stars with frequent releases. Upgrading to 4.4.0 changed the signing identity, so macOS may ask you to re-grant Screen Recording permission.
