LibreOffice
A free, full office suite with documents, spreadsheets, slides, and more.

Best for
People and organizations that need a local office suite without a subscription or cloud account.
Why it deserves attention
LibreOffice bundles Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Base, and Math, opens Microsoft Office formats, and exports to PDF, with a consistent interface across macOS, Windows, and Linux. It is MPL-2.0 licensed, free for any use, and maintained by The Document Foundation with regular releases. Extensions and templates cover everything from bibliography to mail merge. The trade-off is compatibility at the edges: complex Office files with macros or unusual layouts can shift, real-time collaboration is limited, and the interface feels more traditional than newer web suites.
