Best for

Python developers tired of slow installs and a pile of overlapping environment tools.

Why it deserves attention

uv resolves and installs packages orders of magnitude faster than pip, manages virtual environments, runs tools without installing them globally, and pins an entire project with a universal lockfile. It can also download and switch Python versions itself, which removes most of the reason to keep pyenv around, and its workspace support mirrors what Cargo and pnpm users expect. Written in Rust and maintained by Astral (the Ruff team), it is Apache/MIT licensed with roughly 90,000 GitHub stars. Caveats: some niche packages with custom build steps still need attention on first resolution, and teams migrating from Poetry should expect to move their config into pyproject.toml.
