## Best for

Writers who produce long-form text daily and want structure without leaving the keyboard.

## Why it deserves attention

Ulysses stores everything in Markdown inside a library organised by groups and filters, then adds distraction-free modes, inline markup, a split editor with live preview, writing goals by word or character count, and revision snapshots you can compare. Publishing targets cover WordPress, Ghost, Medium and Micro.blog, and export handles PDF, DOCX, EPUB and HTML with styles you can tweak. It syncs through iCloud between Mac, iPad and iPhone. It is subscription-based, which is the main objection. The trade-off beyond price: the library is not a folder of plain files, so you are committing to its sync and export flow.
