Best for

Agent users who want drafts to land as plain files they can read, edit, and version themselves.

Why it deserves attention

StoatMD opens a local folder of plain Markdown files, so an agent can write drafts straight to disk without MCP bridges or a plugin layer, and you edit the same files in a clean reading view or raw source mode. Cloud sync is included without an account, the desktop app is free, and the iPhone app is planned as a one-time purchase. It is a young, focused app rather than a full knowledge base: expect fewer plugins, backlinks, and automation than Obsidian. Plain files make it easy to leave if the product stalls.
