## Best for

Teams running their own services who need one place to see whether things are healthy.

## Why it deserves attention

Grafana connects to Prometheus, Loki, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, InfluxDB, CloudWatch and dozens more, then lets you build panels with variables, transformations and reusable dashboards. Alerting rules can notify Slack, PagerDuty or email, dashboards can be provisioned as code through the API or Terraform, and a large plugin ecosystem adds data sources and panel types. It is open source with about 78,000 GitHub stars and can be self-hosted or used as Grafana Cloud, and the free tier is genuinely usable. The trade-off: it visualises, it does not collect — you still need the metrics pipeline — and some enterprise features such as advanced alerting and SSO are limited in the open-source edition.
