## Best for

Heavy feed readers who want their subscriptions, read state, and search history to live on hardware they control.

## Why it deserves attention

FreshRSS has been developed since 2012, is AGPL-3.0, and has more than 16,000 GitHub stars. It aggregates RSS and Atom feeds, podcasts, and video channels, supports WebSub for near-real-time updates, OPML import and export, saved queries, and web scraping to build feeds from sites that have none. It ships Fever and Google Reader compatible APIs so third-party mobile clients work, plus themes, extensions, and translations in more than 15 languages. It runs on SQLite, MySQL, or PostgreSQL, installs with Docker or a classic PHP stack, and is tuned to handle a million articles and fifty thousand feeds. The trade-off is that you run the server and its database yourself, and there is no first-party mobile app.
