## Best for

Mac users who regularly save online video or audio and want a polished app instead of a command-line script.

## Why it deserves attention

Downie from Charlie Monroe Software supports more than 1,000 sites, fetches the highest available quality including 4K, and can convert downloads to MP4 for iPhone or iPad or extract only the audio track. A browser extension for Safari, Chrome, and Firefox sends links straight to the app, iCloud syncs download history across Macs, and a built-in browser handles sites that are not supported out of the box. The app is native, localized, and updated every week or two as sites change. It costs $19.99 for a permanent license with a free trial, or comes through Setapp. The trade-off is that it is macOS-only and paid, and whether a download is allowed still depends on the site's terms and copyright.

## Can replace
