Best for

People with large local archives who remember what is inside a file but not its name.

Why it deserves attention

DigUp indexes folders you choose and lets you search by meaning: a query like “the clause about pets in the lease” opens the PDF at the page, “zebra in a video” jumps to the frame, and audio queries land on the minute. Results are grouped by media type and open in your existing viewer. EmbeddingGemma 2 runs on-device through llama.cpp, so the index stays local. It is MIT-licensed; the Mac build needs Apple Silicon and macOS 14+, while Windows and Linux builds are still beta.
