## Best for

Teams writing TypeScript for the server who want one tool for run, test, lint, format and deploy.

## Why it deserves attention

Deno runs TypeScript without a build step, denies file, network and environment access unless you grant permissions explicitly, and bundles a test runner, linter, formatter and language server so a new project needs no toolchain assembly. Since Deno 2 it is compatible with npm packages and Node APIs, which removed the biggest reason teams avoided it, and its monthly active users reportedly more than doubled in the six months after that release. There is also Deno Deploy for edge hosting and JSR for publishing TypeScript modules; in 2026 Deno announced it is joining Cloudflare, with the runtime staying open source. It is MIT-licensed with about 108,000 GitHub stars. The caveats: some native Node addons still need shims, and the ecosystem's long-term shape is less settled than Node's.
