## Best for

Teams that want Loom-style async video without per-seat subscription lock-in.

## Why it deserves attention

Cap records the screen in Instant or Studio mode, uploads as you go, and gives you a link the moment you stop; Studio mode adds backgrounds, padding, and clips. Screenshots and a library are included, and the desktop app runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. The core is open source with 24,000 GitHub stars, and self-hosting the server is possible. Cloud plans add storage and team features, so heavy teams still pay something.
