## Best for

People who want passwords synced across devices without paying for a basic plan.

## Why it deserves attention

Bitwarden stores logins, passkeys, cards, and notes in an end-to-end encrypted vault and syncs them to browser extensions, desktop apps, mobile apps, and a CLI. The free plan covers unlimited passwords and devices, and Premium adds TOTP, vault health reports, and emergency access. The clients are GPL-3.0, and the server code is source-available under Bitwarden's own license, so you can audit it or self-host. Import tools cover most competitors. The trade-off is that cloud sync depends on Bitwarden's service unless you self-host, and the interface is more utilitarian than polished commercial rivals.
